Bashir denies allowing Kenya Airlines use of Sudan airspace for trip to Israel

President Omar Al-Bashir said his country had rejected a Kenya Airways request to use Sudanese airspace for trips to and from Israel.

Al-Bashir’s comments came in response to earlier remarks made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in which he claimed that Sudan would allow Israeli carrier El Al to fly over its territory.

“We received a request to use our airspace on the route to Tel Aviv. The request did not come from El Al, but from Kenya Airways. We refused,” Al-Bashir said in an interview with a local TV channel.

He accused Israel of supporting opposition groups against him as well as standing behind the economic and diplomatic blockade against his country and bombing the capital Khartoum twice.

Netanyahu recently stirred controversy claiming that Israeli airplanes will be able to fly over Sudan after relations between the two countries are normalisation.
